Just some thoughts...

Yesterday in my AIB class Representing Representation we discussed copyright and ownership which made me think of Shirky's book. The problem being discussed was weather Koons stole Art Rogers photograph to make tons of money off of his own version of the piece. He had a sculpture built and then photographed the sculpture in black in white making it look pretty identical to Art's photograph. In the end he was brought to court and lost the case [as well as losing 3 or 4 other cases that year dealing with the same issues]. If ownership is that important in the art world how does it keep its importance when the web is involved. With tools like screen shot it is easy to get access to most art today. I still don't understand how blogs and tumb1r and other sites allow people to post and share art [mainly photographs] without even crediting the artist.

But what is the Grids purpose?
The premise of the system is ideally suited to rapid prototyping, but it would work equally well when integrated into a production environment. There are printable sketch sheets, design layouts, and a CSS file that have identical measurements.
Fluid 960 Grid System
Templates for Rapid Interactive Prototyping
Picturing the Grid has been something that does not come naturally to my mind however learning to work with it has allowed my web creating skills to take on a new, cleaner, simpler feel which is awesome. I love the movement in this site under the 'One, Two, Three, Four' section.

Fish McGill
Today's class was so interesting. Everything Fish McGill had to say was interesting and inspiring. I can't even begin to express how refreshing it was to have a successful artist who wasn't arrogant speaking to us. He seemed so down to earth and excited to be able to share his knowledge with us which made it all the more interesting. As for the sites they were pretty sweet. The more I learn about design the more I want to learn and sort of regret not taking more design courses at AIB. My dad is a Beatles, video game, comic book nerd man and I can't wait to tell him all about today's class. Also anyone who draws robots, ice cream, weiner dogs & little dudes is cool in my book.
As for the rest of the day. Lesley University til 10pm. no.thank.you. ._.

Thoughts on Chapter 6.
If email is free, instant and doesn't require the sender and the receiver to be synchronized with one another why is it that at times I hate it? I feel like no matter what when things are written they can be read incorrectly in terms of tone. This summer I experienced the longest distant relationship I ever had with Alex in China and me in NY and while using email I felt like I never knew how the other person was truly feeling. You can never pick up on little things like attitude and sarcasm or little jokes. Don't get me wrong I am thankful for having multiple ways of communicating, especially in these situations, I'd just rather video chat or talk on the phone when it comes to the important stuff.

Today's Class
Ay, I feel like a web design failure. It is hard to make sites appealing and some of my classmates are pretty damn good at it. I feel like if someone was to hand me Photoshop and say hey design a site I'd be like yes! but then dealing w tables and such just hurts my brain. Practice Practice Practice.
Also, my caffeine free Life style is getting more and more complicated. Thursday 8am field trip to Arboretum (sp?), climbing rocks at Blue Hills and then Castle Island all before 11 has over exhausted me.

copyrights and citations
In a world where we are warned not to plagiarize I am constantly confused with how fast this simple rule is forgotten on the web. Last week we learned that when making a web site you MUST give credit to any image you use unless you yourself took it. Common sense to writers and artists. And yet blogs like Tumblr exist where credit is never given and when it is, some annoying person decides to erase it because the artists name is just far too gross for their beloved tumblr's layout. How is this allowed? How are we allowed to share music and art without giving credit? Where have the rules gone and why is this grey area not taken into account? I feel like I am the one of few, linking back to artists websites and citing the creators.

Kompozer.
While this program is extremely helpful and even my computer illiterate mother could probably make a site of some sort I just feel like no matter how hard I try I am left with an unattractive site that looks like a Microsoft Word page live on the internet. I honestly don't understand how people do it. I understand the codes and have played around with tables but even as an art student I fail at making it look appealing. Oh well... In time?
Why Robots Scare Me...
See more funny videos and Technology Videos at Today's Big Thing.
I just feel like the future is going to happen and robots are going to take over the world and they most likely wont be singing Asian pop songs when they do it. It walks so real, its creepy. That is all.

What Can An AIB Student Do?
When they are stuck at Lesley University from 2:15-7:30. I find it extremely boring waiting for my 5:00 class between 2:15 and 5:00... I have no dorm room, I barely know this building... avocado rolls from downstairs and hours of internet stumbling it is.
Birthday Complex
While reading Chapter 2 of Here Comes Everybody the Birthday Paradox is something I found to be extremely interesting. The Paradox explains that in a set of randomly chosen people some pair of them will have the same birthday. As the number of people increases the probability of two or more people sharing a birthday increases. It all makes sense logically it just is not something I would think about.

Facebook Ruins Lives
Went and saw The Social Network on Friday at the Somerville theater. First of all Somerville theater $7 movie, beer at the theater and popcorn was under $5 = [unlike every overpriced theater in Boston] win. The movie was surprisingly very interesting. The inventor of facebook is from Harvard? odd. The inventor of facebook striving to just be popular in college? odd. The inventor of facebook is the youngest billionaire. wow. The film was shot really well and I am a sucker for seeing Boston scenes in movies now that I live here. Once again the internet has blown my mind in how facebook blew up so quickly and gained so much revenue. However Mark Zuckerberg is portrayed basically as jerk which yet again makes me want to delete my facebook forever.I also saw Catfish a few weeks ago which I personally think is a bit more interesting. Also dealing with the internet and facebook this accidental documentary shows us what happens when you spend time talking to people on the internet and what can happen when they don't turn out to be who you thought they were. After the movie there was a Q&A with the director and his brother who were both in the film which was pretty awesome. It is a scary world out there. Talking to unknown people is never a good idea and this film shows how weird it can turn out. Also will make you want to rethink having a facebook.

The Rocky Coast
To me it is difficult to create a "web site" on something I know nothing about. I mean I guess that is the job of a web designer but I only started this less than a month ago. The method of bulleting is something I really dislike. I think it is too broken apart and honestly if I was looking for information on an in depth topic I would choose chunking over bullets. The thing with chunking that is tricky is trying to remember the upside down triangle...it is hard to keep that in mind when working with one page out of seven. Does it apply?

the future of the internet...
After today's class I sort of want to delete all my accounts and get off the web. I just feel like in 50 years everyone will be lazy, fat and annoying all due to everything they ever need being right on the screen of their computer. I also can't even begin to imagine a future with no books. Reading on a computer is torturous . In the end my eyes hurt, my head hurts, and I just get sick of the scrolling. It is hard to say what will come but the predictions don't seem to far fetched. I guess we can only wait and see.

blogger,
I feel like some things on this site are so simple... choose color, choose font, choose this choose that. And yet in an attempt to 'follow' my classmates it took forever to try and get to their blogs from Beth's blog. I don't feel like I am the type of person who is computer challenged but this site sometimes makes me feel that way.

this class...
The reading about making it in the blogging world was extremely interesting. I can't believe people plan out their blogs up to 12 months in advanced. When I work with Tumblr I am basically just blogging for fun...I never thought to actually plan out my months and days. It absolutely makes sense to try to reach out to a specific group. Ive noticed that the same sort of group of people are interested in the same sort of things. It is all relative.
As for the reading on media convergences and whatnot... it was honestly painful to get through. It is weird because the last one on trains was interesting and this one which dealt with topics I have actually heard about I couldn't help but feel uninterested. Oh well...
yay internets

School...
is becoming overwhelming already.
I have the task of trying to photograph divorced couples. Easier said then done. If anyone knows any divorced people that would be willing to model for me with their ex spouses let me know!
& check out my other blog!
